The Unfair Eviction is the first in a series of articles called What would you do? “What would you do?” presents an actual real estate situation with real consequences.
It works like this. I present to you a true life real estate event. The events are re-stated from the people involved. At the end of each article, I ask what would you do in the same situation. You are invited to leave your answer in the comment section.
Think of it as a way of testing yourself when it comes to real estate matters. Why, because real estate is more than just location, location, location.

Today Story: The Unfair Eviction Part 1
A friend approached me with this problem. The landlord told her mother’s caregiver that he wants to raise the rent. No reasons are given. There have not been any improvements to the apartment. The landlord tells the tenant if she does not pay the increased rent he will evict her. This was just the beginning.
Harass The Tenant
In an act of harassment, the owner tells the tenant that if she does not pay the increase he will have the marshals put her out on the street. He continues to harass her for the increased rent even though he has told her he is going to evict her. He now claims he needs the apartment for someone else.
The tenant is a good tenant. She pays her rent on time. At the time of the notification, the tenant paid the previous rental amount. The owner has never had a problem with this tenant.
