No Alternate Side Parking An Open Email

No Alternate Side Parking. This article is an open email to Mayor Adams and my city council member Charles Barron.
The following is an open email sent to Mayor Adams and the Council Member for my district concerning the return of pre-pandemic alternate side parking status. I present it here as an incentive for you to do the same. If you drive anywhere in the five boroughs, this concerns you. There is still time to make your voice heard. Let City Hall and the City Council know how you feel about it today.

No Alternate Side Parking

Email To Council Member Barron

To Council Member Barron,

It has come to my attention that Mayor Adams plans to reinstate alternate side parking to pre-pandemic status. With all that New Yorkers have endured and still are dealing with, reinstating alternate side parking is wrong. Below is an open letter I emailed to the mayor. As the representative for this district, I ask that you take action to prevent the reinstatement of alternate side parking to pre-pandemic status.

I would like to see alternate side parking removed permanently, but failing that, keeping it on a one-day basis is acceptable.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Open Email To Mayor Adams No Alternate Side Parking

To Mayor Adams,

On July 5th, you intend to reinstate alternate side parking to pre-pandemic status. My immediate reaction to this announcement, I need to get out of New York. It is unbelievable that you would want to inflict more pain on New Yorkers.

I thought you wanted to attract people to New York, not chase them away. Or give the New Yorkers that are here another reason to leave. The return of alternate side parking does just that.

  • Fact, parking is a problem in the boroughs.
  • Fact, no driver was ever happy to rush out and move their car for a street sweeper. Not one.

And please forget the line about how our streets are less clean because the street sweepers were idle. That is not true.

The fact is parking tickets are a cash cow for the city. A cash cow that hurts New Yorkers. And its time is passed.

In 2015 under Mayor DeBlasio, New York made 565 million in parking violations. The most one-year total ever. See New York City had a record-breaking year for fines and fees in 2015

The pandemic cut into this gouging of New Yorkers, and now you want to bring it back. Why? Perhaps because it solves the money crunch the city is in but on the back of New Yorkers.

E-Waste Pickup Alternative

Instead of returning New York to the bad old days of alternate side parking, how about reinstating e-waste pickup.

  • E-waste pickup helps the environment and keeps electronic waste out of landfills.
  • E-waste pickup aids New Yorkers in getting rid of large bulky electronics such as old televisions that cannot truck to a recycling location.
  • And it does not inconvenience or stress New Yorkers as alternate side parking does.

Enough Already

We have dealt with a devastating virus.

  • Unimaginable deaths,
  • High taxes,
  • High rents,
  • Runaway inflation,
  • Price gouging in food, and gas,
  • Lack of formula for our babies.

And now you want to add the stress of alternate side parking.

Have we not suffered enough.

Be the mayor I thought you would be.

End alternate side parking forever.

Signed,

George Frazier

Concerned New Yorker
