Did Mayor DeBlasio sell out all public housing in New York City for all generations? I leave that up to you to decide after reading the following.
The East New York Plan
If you read the East New York Neighborhood Story you know that DeBlasio has been selling “underused” spaces in East New York and Brownsville. Supposedly, this is to increase affordable housing in the five boroughs. But what it really does is increase the population in areas that cannot support them. It promotes the dense packing and warehousing of people. Something that has been shown to be a failed concept.
Behind The Scenes
While researching the articles for Why the Mayor’s Housing Plan Will Fail I began to hear talk about a developer or developers taking over Linden and Boulevard houses. I heard more about this while working on NYCHA To Evict Family Member Not On The Lease Pt 1. Unfortunately, I was not able to verify any of this until now. Why? Because the following was done in the shadows. Unlike other projects, the mayor likes to crow over this one was not widely publicized. We’re going to correct that now.
The Sell-Out: 5 Developers And More To Run NYCHA
The city has signed a deal with 5 developers to “take charge of management and repairs at seven housing complexes totaling 5,908 units,” as stated in NYCHA inks $1.5B deal to privatize management of 5,900 units. This after the city decided the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration program or RAD was deemed a success. But RAD is anything but a success as I will show upcoming articles.
Here’s are excerpts from an article from The Real Deal entitled: NYCHA inks $1.5B deal to privatize management of 5,900 units.
Excerpt from article
Five development teams including L+M Development Partners, Hudson Companies and Settlement Housing Fund will take charge of management and repairs at seven housing complexes totaling 5,908 units, the Housing Authority announced Thursday after Crain’s reported the deal.

The projects are East New York’s Linden Houses and Boulevard Houses, East Williamsburg’s Williamsburg Houses, Washington Heights’ Bethune Gardens and Marshall Plaza, and Harlem’s Audubon Houses and Harlem River Houses 1 and 2.
No Word To The Tenants
I cannot determine if tenants in Linden and Boulevard houses know the details of this deal. Nor do they know the details of any developer taking over their development. Could it be that the mayor was afraid of the backlash this would have if tenants were informed of this takeover? And even if he did would they know the full extent of such a move?
Developers Are In It For The Money
No matter how you spin it, developers are in this for the money. That means no affordable housing. And to achieve that housing tenants have to go. Hmmm, maybe that’s why Mac has to be evicted. His rent is far below market, not a good look for developers.
RAD on the outside
From the outside looking in if I don’t tell you all the facets of RAD it may not seem like a bad deal. Except for the fact that privatization of public housing is not a good thing.
In my next installment, I will introduce you to RAD and Section 18. You will learn how Mr. Trump aka Number 45 and Ben Carson are using it to eliminate affordable housing.
And as for Mac
When I hear more about his efforts to fight his eviction I will report them to you. However, there is no doubt in my mind that Mac’s plight is tied to RAD and Section 18
